Role of humanitarianism, ways un have defined humanitarianism. What is wrong w foreign aid: the (cid:494)big push(cid:495, case against aid. Jeffrey sachs: says major role foreign aid can play in long term dev in low income countries involved the big push. William easterly: sees negative aspects of foreign aid, argues national economies get into debt problems, low productivity trap for many structural reasons (trade, edu, investments, etc. ) and big push wont make a big difference. Its the countries who have had previous debt, more likely to fall in debt again. Dambisa moyo: aid has not worked in case of africa, what(cid:495)s needed is foreign investment, investments in productivity, create more employment, wealth, etc. In comparison to/during marshall plan (us effort to help war torn countries of europe recover from ww2 w grants/loans) us spent 2% of gdp on foreign aid: close relationship between humanitarian and suffering/geo-political context within war.
