Rights protection: parliamentary supremacy, laws made by parliament trump those by judges, because the belief is parliament will best protect the rights. Because they are voted by the people: this + elected officials respecting the rule of law = strong rights protection. Parliament is supreme, no one person of body can overrule this: for this to be applicable successfully, the rule of law is essential, laws must be made know to everyone is the public. This ensures the laws are made under accepted procedures: laws are not binding in procedures are not followed, key to protecting rights is parliament, not government. First check on government powers: elections are also key in protecting citizen rights, + responsible government. Being held accountable by the legislature: robust media. To report on governments doings: transparency. Law is made and debated in public. Always was but it is made easier with technology: independent judiciary.
