Independence means there should be no relation to other involved actors. Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done: we accept the impartiality of our judges. Relational concept: formal institutional protection for judges, this stops people from looking into the work of other branches of governments. Behavioral concept: behavior of judges is it displaying autonomous decision making, decisions of public policy are not to be made unless they are within your courtroom. We don"t have protocols to deal with issues out of the judges control incapacity now parliament can require a leave of absence. We have never removed a federally appointed judge because of misconduct. Have completed several investigations: financial security. Fixed salaries and pensions: administrative control. Made it that appointments are made valid through good behavior.
