It began the recognition of the religion practiced by the ruling prince in the area: this gave princes the power to serve fully in their kingdom (land they owned) Imperialism: when a state tries to expand its borders and take over other states. Hegemony- a state that has the most power and control over other states. Empirical statehood: extent which a state fulfils its role for its citizens. Quasi states: have judicial statehood but not empirical statehood ex. Somalia: affect the balance of power- creates a vacuum of power.
