The three worlds concept emerged ater wwii: first: advanced industrialized naions, second: communist naions, third: neither advanced nor communist. Third world came to describe a very large and diverse group. Third world as residual category that has litle meaning. Diicult to categorize states and poliical systems. Interwar period (1919-1939) state of autarky: autarky: non-interacion and isolaion between states. Lack of coordinaion lead to wwii, dynamic of suspicion and distrust. Desire to avoid another autarky postwar: trade and economic growth would lead to peace.
