Xing ming is a fundamental structure for han feizi. Performance has to match what is named. Han feizi doctrine is on how to create order. Similar to xunzi by assuming human nature is bad (self-interest), and provides an outline to deal with this bad nature. Gets ideas of human nature from xunzi and uses daoist ideas of emptiness (i. e. purging likes and dislikes to make ruling ministers easier). Marquis zhao of han once became drunk and fell asleep . The ministers need to understand their place according to their roles, and the ruler needs to understands his role (i. e. punishing the master of cups for overstepping his bounds, and master of cloaks for not fulfilling his duties). Everything is named, has a task form from it. If xing ming isn"t performed it could lead to chaos. Over performing (master of cups) overperforming indicates a preference: this could lead the minister to manipulating the ruler.
