Human nature needs to be shaped via norms ( yi ) otherwise there will be chaos. They share corruption of value - consequentialism with value of order (e. g. impartiality). Consequentialism: an act is right if and only if, it produces the best consequences (e. g. utilitarianism) Mozi and xunzi both value an action that produces the most order. Mozi values impartiality, while xunzi values partiality ( xiao ). You can get to a partiality via impartiality. By being partial and only caring for your immediate family, it creates small bubbles of partiality, that create a larger. They differ on li : xunzi defends it! Music: xunzi says you can"t get rid of it, so you should enjoy it as long as it is in accordance with ritual, while mozi believes you should get rid of it. Mozi is critical of lavish expenditure, and lavish rituals. Xunzi believes that ritual promotes social order!
