Process of recognition > self-consciousness exists in and for itself when [ ] it so exists for another; that is, it exists only in being acknowledged. (s178) Self-consciousness as desire > clothes, sex, food, car, etc. infinite possibilities: sensuous object as independent thing, self-consciousness must supersede this otherness of itself -s180. What precedes self-consciousness is consciousness, and after that it"s us existing in world as sensual beings. To make what is other itself: self-consciousness turns into itself, realizes it desires otherness, desire is immersed in life; desired object always an object of life, self-consciousness externalizes itself, goes outside itself, to what it wants. Then, it consumes, or destroys the thing, and then integrate/transform it into yourself. Has being-for-itself, which is achieved by negating everything that is not it. This is the most primitive, rudimentary form of desire for hegel. However, this act comes up against a problem/contradiction that compels it to act this way.
