Phil 2280 key concepts in political philosophy: justice and power. People don"t have the right perspective to see what"s going on around the world. Socrates appears as a character in the dialog. Throughout the republic socrates uses two devices that are worth noting. Secondly he uses a method called elenchus in which he attempts to draw out existing inconsistencies within his interlocutor"s belief system. Elenchus > socrates is trying to show that each person who is trying to define justice is inconsistent with other views ex. Do good to friends and harm enemies > your enemies may be good people and they do not deserve to get hurt. Justice requires living up to (legal) obligation and honesty. But: should we return weapons to a friend not in his right mindread notes on mad man example. Attributes to simonides the view that justice is repayment of debts.
