Primary qualities (solidity, dimensionality; concerned with its materiality) vs. secondary qualities (colour) Recall that substances have unique qualities that distinguish them from everything else descartes thinks there are two substances: thinking kinds of things, and extended kinds of things. Leibniz says that everything is a mind (monad) with distinguishing characteristics and complete individual concepts. Locke says that descartes" world is weird because he made a mistake by asserting an apriori concept of the world locke says he doesn"t know what the essential characteristics of things are.
