Re-conceptualization of (cid:494)(ealth(cid:495: (cid:498)sickness is an arena that calls us to test and reforge who we really are and who we wish to be. It would be wrong for the ill person as moral actor to be neglected in bioethical reflection, as it would be in clinical practice. Close attention to the illness experience can help remedy such lacks. The ill person is neither a collection of organs and symptoms, nor an abstract rational agent. He or she suffering, coping, questioning, adapting - ever remains the central player in an unfolding medical and existential drama. (cid:499) Illness is also an existential individual experience: we reforge who we are. Seminar #2: critique from last writing assignment, disease that seems real cancer, normative alcoholism, defend argument in one sentence, and then support it. Topic sentences = your support for your stance: strong justification = opposition and defensive (against common objections, show reader how much you know, and be clear.
