There was a tendency in descartes time to take some of our experiential qualities and confine them to our experiences, denying that they occurred outside the mind in nature. This was because these features (colours, smells, etc) were not needed in the new mechanistic account of natural phenomena that was offered by the physical sciences (which posited only such features as mass, velocity, size, shape, etc) Sensation of pain exists in your mind not in the physical objects. Secondary qualities are caused by external physical things, primary qualities are felt in the mind. When a tree falls in a forest, it will make vibrations in the air but it will not make the quality of sound unless there is someone around the perceive it. Descartes supported dualism subjective qualities (colours, sounds, tastes, etc) are banished from nature and confined to the dustbin of the mind. Mind-body dualism, the mind is not physical.

Consider a satellite of mass ms in a circular earth orbit. Anysatellite orbiting in the upper reaches of our atmosphere willexperience a small drag force, Fd, opposite to itsdirection of motion. This drag force will cause the satellite tospiral inward toward smaller orbital radii. In the process, theorbital velocity of the satellite actually increases! This problemwill investigate how a drag force can cause a body in orbit tospeed up.

The situation is sketched in Fig. 1. The diagram shows separateforce and velocity diagrams for the satellite. The mass of theearth is denoted me, while the mass of the satelliteis ms. In a lab that I am doing for one of my Physics classes, it asksa couple questions that I don't totally understand...

-The lab is about Newtons Second law whereF=Mass*Acceleration

-We have a motion sensor setup to detect the motion of an objectmoving because of gravity(acceleration).

-They give us the theoretical model x(t) = At2 + Bt + Cin order to extract acceleration values from the position data.They tell us "The prediction is that acceleration is a constant, soan appropriate model is of the form..." previously typed where A,B, and C are constant parameters.

Here are the questions it asks...

1) Why is this the appropriate form?

2) What physical quantities do these parameters have?

3) What is A and how is it related to acceleration?

I know that B = inital velocity and that C = initial position,but what is A, or I guess what is the mathematical relationshipbetween A and acceleration?

I will rate GOOD and QUICK if you can help me understand thesesimple questions!
