A nutritional cond. as it results in threats to health caused by nutrition and hydration issues. Must be identified and managed as asap. Phases of swallowing can be divided into oral preparatory and oral transit phases. Ability to remove food/liquid from spoon or form a seal around the rim of a cup. Timely and organized chewing (mastication) and moving of food around in the mouth. Creation of bolus by pressing food against hard palate. Timely transit to bolus from the front of the mouth to the back. Adequate clearing of bolus from the oral cavity.
