Examples: help someone who is already smoking or eating badly, otherwise population is healthy; breast self-exam, preventing cardiac arrest in smokers, colon cancer screening, dental visits (only secondary if there are risks involved with the individual) Educating of an individual with the disease with the goal of returning individual to optimum level of functioning. Examples: help those who are already diagnosed (i. e. , educating type 2 diabetes patient how to identify and prevent complications); referring a person who has had a stroke to a rehabilitation centre, support group for diagnosed alcoholic.
