MCS 2000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Active Listening
Document Summary
Ones professional presence is their ability to project competence, credibility, and confidence in your communication. Communication is the process by which people not only exchange messages (information, ideas, and feelings) but also co-create and share meaning. The transmission model follows: a sender has an intention, encodes said intention into words, images or actions and sends it through that medium. The receiver then decodes the message to understand its meaning, unless it is blocked by some sort of noise or barrier. Barriers come in many forms and are the primary reason why communication fails. They are obstacles that get in the way of effective communication. Context is the external circumstances and forces that influence communication. Physical context"s where shouting across a room creates a different message then whispering in someone"s ear. Clear and concise communication can save companies thousands of dollars by increasing efficiency.
