When we speak to ourselves / family / from our heart / with lots of emotion. Yes - other animals communicate - but we have creative aspect of language! A system of sounds, meanings, and rules unconsciously learned by speakers. Identification of linguistic features (w/ hypothesis, corpus, analysis, conclusion, etc) [r/r] --> different languages pronounce r"s differently! (ex: french / spanish / english) -->allophones (different pronounciation but meaning is same! Inventory of sounds and how they react/relate to each other. Just the inventory sounds (types of sounds, etc) Tendency in languages = putting relating things together! Linguist = specialist of linguistics (don"t need to be multilingual to be linguist! We know lots more than what we apply! All people speak, but not all can write!
