Growth took place in a time when the nationalists wanted to exterminate the communists. There was nowhere for the communists to flee and many were killed. Leadership was very fragmented and always changing in the party, mao was not chairman throughout the whole time. Canton and making it communist, they celebrated by tying red scarves around their neck but the chinese government came in and killed many because the communists were recognizable by the red dye on their necks. Outlaws of the march/ all men are brothers: one of china"s greatest literary works. Jiangxi is where the communists create the red army. Mao and his followers move to this new area and set up here in 1929. Stalin had very different ideas than mao and sends over communists that want urban rebellion making it hard for mao to retain power.
