The yangtze river separates the northern and southern parts of china proper. The yellow river (china"s river of mother) waters northern china: cultural heart of china; northern mandarin; adequate rainfall for agriculture; noodles/stream bread; coal/oil" heavy industry. The yangtze river and west river are lifelines of the southern region: rice/tea, light industry, few fuel resources; cantonese. Turpan depression: the worlds lowest basin, 50,000 sq. km in total, 4,000, it includes the second lowest exposed point in the earths sq. km below msl surface (154m) after the dead sea. Qinghai-tibet plateau average elevation of over 4,500m, the roof of the world .
