GEOG 3020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Drug Resistance, United Nations Environment Programme, Adaptive Capacity
Document Summary
A factor that frustrates many of us is that we know what we need to do to improve and protect our global environment. In discussing adaptation to climate change, the ipcc stated that there are formidable environmental, economic, informational, social, attitudinal and behavioural barriers that must be overcome. Of particular relevance are information and cognitive barriers that we need to understand and address if we are truly to improve the global environment and at its base the human- environment relationship same concepts apply to other gecs. The ipcc offers 4 main perspectives on individual informational and cognitive barriers, based on their review of the literature: 1) knowledge of climate change causes, impacts and possible solutions does not necessarily lead to adaptation. We tend to believe that providing people with sound info will lead to the increased knowledge and thus action.
