Remote sensing (could be in uv, rbg, thermal etc) Digitizing (tracing or using software to create copies of select features) Keyboard entry (enter data into a spreadsheet), Field recorders (weather stations, other data recording sites water buoy, number of wildlife sitings from a trail cam etc) Selection - choosing what we are interested in (removing clutter) Simplification - at a large scale you can"t see a difference, and this minimizes load times etc. Displacement - shifting features slightly to show features that would otherwise appear at the same point due to the map scale. Smoothing - data is collected at a small scale, so appears more "jagged" that it should be. Enhancement - data is "added" either from a more detailed map, or just estimated. Eliminate every "nth" vertex (eg if n=2 then every 2nd vertex is removed) except for the first and last points.
