GEOG 1220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Scattered Trees, Unit, Random Seed
Document Summary
Nutrients that are required by living organisms only in small amounts. An amenable temperature, air, light, soil and water. Nutrients that are required in relatively large amounts are called (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) macronutrients ex. Nitrogen and phosphorus (cid:1) are called micronutrients ex. There are three major groups of forest biomes (cid:1) A forest, strictly speaking, is a land area with significant tree cover, (cid:1) in which the canopy (the upper level of leaves and branches defined by the treetops) is largely closed. A woodland is a wooded area in which the canopy is more open; that is, there are some openings between the trees that allow light to penetrate to the ground, or floor of the forest. Boreal forest cold, relatively dry climates with short growing seasons: evergreen, coniferous trees. Temperature forest distinct winter season and summer growing season: deciduous trees, turn color and fall. Tropical forest wet, tropical climates: not high temperature, but high rainfall.
