Population geography: demographic processes and patterns (chapter 3) Population distribution and structure: the human population is growing exponentially, rapid growth, much of the world"s population growth is taking place in peripheral countries (developing world) Periphery countries: stable (stationary) pyramid (bullet shape): equal amount of young population and middle age, it shows low fertility and slow growth - semi-periphery. Countries: diminishing (regressive) pyramid (narrow base and it expands as it goes up): few young people and lots of middle age and older people, it shows a country in population decline - core countries. Famine/starvation, wars & natural disasters: access to quality health care, sanitation, clean water, the safety of jobs or work, and places of residence are all things that affect the cdr as well. Infant mortality rate - number of deaths of infants under 1 year old vs. the number of births in a year, per 1000 people. Europe from africa, asia and the middle east.
