World system includes- places, countries, regions (linked together by economic and political competition. Mini-systems: -mainly existed as regions and these regions were small and disconnected. Population of these mini-systems were mainly of people with similar culture. Local production and local consumption virtually no trade between places. None of early mini systems endured for a long time. World empires were held together by large military and political systems. Idea of living in cities was introduced by world-empires. Initiated by european merchant capitalism all about the need for overseas expansion. Core countries have diversi ed economies in which are highly productive. Economies are underdeveloped or highly specialized in a narrow range of products. Has the ability to exploit countries of the periphery and countries of the peripheries are being exploited by countries of the poor. (often referred to as the newly industrialized. ) Growth of core countries is contributed to innovations. (way that we make things and innovations in transportation technologies.
