Whats grown on the farm, is consumed on the farm. This type of agriculture is done for survival. The activity is labour intensive, need a lot of workers, work that is done on the farm is often members of the family, and they are unpaid. Farmers rotate location of their elds to maintain soil fertility. Shifting cultivation takes place: tropical forests soil relativity is fairly low. Relies on high inputs but also has high yields. Put a lot into it, ut get a lot out of it. A lot of human labour into this practice. A lot of chemicals into this practice (fertilizer) Same eld, double-cropping (plant and harvest same eld more than once a year) People rely on animals rather than crops as main source of food. Transhumance: happens in the alps of europe, happens in rockies of north america, in south america it happens in the indies, takes place in himalayas of asia.
