Pigeon learns that pecking the disc results in reward of food. Birds were fed less than they usually were so they were always hungry. Very large number of schedules/efects (may only reinforce every 10th ime) These principles are now used to do good (for things like safety) but are also used for things like adverising and gambling. The plan or rule outlining which occurrences of behaviour will be reinforced. Behaviour is reinforced based on the number of imes that it occurs. Schedules: fixed raio, variable diferent (could be 5, 7, 9 etc. , progressive might star at 2, then move to 3, then 4 etc. The irst instance of the behaviour is rewarded ater a period of ime (interval) where no rewards are given. Variable interval (vi: the length of the interval changes unpredictably around an average (i. e. 10 mins, produces a moderate, steady rate of behaviour, litle to no post-reinforcement pause.
