Conlict is more frequent and intense between mothers and daughters. Cogniive changes: abstract and complex thinking, autonomy and authority. Tradiional cultures: frequent, pety conlicts are rare, reasons. North america: most late teens move out: stay at home, 40% return home. Relaionships with parents: improve when move out, poor when remain at home, ambivalence when return home. 2: movement from rural to urban residence. Change in last 50 years: divorce rate, single-parent household, dual-earner families. Family process factors: exposure to conlict between parents. Is more damaging than the actual divorce: efects on parening pracices. The father oten lives far away: increases in economic stress.
