Human body has 46 chromosomes (23 pairs) -> each pair can be different- called alleles. -> can be seen in both homo and heterozygous. -> if paired with a dominant gene, will not be expressed. -> only expressed when alleles are homozygous (same) *if u have a free earlobe then it is dominant! an attached is recessive. -> single fertilized egg that splits in two. -> two separate fertilized eggs by two separate sperm. ---> e. g. sickle cell disease, hemophilia (blood doesn"t clot easily! boys are more likely to get it) -> extra, missing, or damaged, which causes problems. -> the extra x will make women taller and not function the same. ---> woman in 20"s 1 in a 100, woman in 40"s 1 in 50. -> slower pace and may be different than a child without ds. -> benefit from speech therapy, occupational therapy, and exercises for gross and fine motor skills.
