Adult friendship: younger adults report more friends, 3 themes in adult friendship. Compatibility: men tend to have fewer friends than women. Friends based on shared activities: women friendship based on intimate emotional sharing, cross-gender friendships. Men overestimate sexual interest, women underestimate sexual interest. Hostile: mostly loyal and congenial (2/3, sister ties tend to be stronger. Love: 3 components of love (sternberg) Choosing a partner who shares the same values, goals, and interests. Homogamy: degree to which people are similar: violence in relationships. Remaining in abusive relationships lead to low self-esteem. Patriarchal terrorism: systematic violence by men against women. Triad of control: need to control, misuse of power, jealousy. Neglect: often done by adult children. Singlehood: most adults in 20s are single (not married, men tend to stay single longer. Health and longevity consequences of singlehood for men, but not women. No ethnic difference for women: women with higher levels of education are over-represented in single adults.
