Underlying causes of deviance and with a fine tuned eye you could easily spot it. Responsible for functionalism and the social system: society is made up of parts (social institutions) that all work together. When the parts are working together efficiently, The part is there for a reason, if it didn"t have a purpose it wouldn"t be there: the machine is (cid:498)broken(cid:499) and it becomes anomic. When the parts are not working together efficiently, deviance is more likely deviance is less likely. Thought of deviance as functional (four reasons: deviant behaviour facilitates social solidarity. Encourages us to come together, as they both disagree with the deviant behaviour. Ex. in the past, those who were publicly shamed drew a crowd, as people had a mutual hatred.
