Our deiniion for the course: conlict is an expressed struggle between at least two interdependent paries who perceive incompaible goals, scarce resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals. Joint communicaive: verbal and non-verbal, passive aggressive notes or sleeping in a diferent room. Communicaion is central in all interpersonal conlict: communicaion behaviour oten creates conlict, communicaion behaviours relect conlict. An afair, household chores, loss of a job: brings conlict to atenion. Interdependence: people who are not dependent upon each other - no special interest in what the other does - do not have conlicts. Mutual acivity: decide to be interdependent or independent agents. Move back and forth, need to ind balance: unproducive interdependence leads to gridlocked conlicts. Perceived incompaible goals: this is what we ight about, seen as incompaible because: Perceived scarce resources: resources could be any posiively perceived physical, economic, or social consequence, two resources are perceived as scarce in relaionships.
