Focus on whats going on in the family: families are not marriages of home or rules. Families are people who share intimacy because they share experiences that come to make up their uniqueness - the mundane, even silly, traditions that emerge in a group of people who know each other. It is intimacy that provides the group for our lives (moore-lappe, 1985) Former modern family: nuclear family: father, mother, and children living in one household, family of origin (one you"re born with, family of procreation (one you marry into) Today"s postmodern family: binuclear family, two households, blended family, the extended family. Classic large nuclear family in 1961 with 5+ people living together: most headed by married couples. Generation boomerang: normal to move out at around 30, big babies in italy bambachonie, amount of financial support and guidance determines how people act as they are older.
