Document Summary
Threats to oceans (the deadly trio : ocean warming. We"ve seen an increase in ocean temperature of 0. 13 degrees. 1910 to 1940 was a big increase: beginning of industrialization. Organisms have specific temperature windows in which they can live. Algae are very sensitive to warmer water and if temperature increases by even a small amount algae are expelled. Results in coral bleaching and even coral death. Tropical oceans may lose a lot of their fish biodiversity. Subtropic and temperate oceans are not as concerned because the once tropical living fish will move north and south: catch composition will slowly change to include more warm water species and fewer cool water species. Affects ocean and atmospheric patterns: ocean acidification. Ph is a measure of acidity (the log of the hydrogen ion concentration) The lower the ph the higher the hydrogen ion concentration i. e ph of 2 has way more hydrogen ions than ph 10.
