Document Summary

By the end of this unit, you should be able to: recognize and describe how bees develop and transform into different stages, explain the fundaments of honey bees anatomy and physiology. There are 4 different life cycle stages in bees. The class insecta - is divided into 2 subclasses: holometabola - includes bees as they go through complete metamorphosis, hemimetabola. They experience a great amount of bodily differentiation through the course of their life cycle - which includes 4 developmental stages: egg --> larva --> pupa --> adult, the first 3 stages are the brood stage. The egg contains an embryo and nutrients for its development. The interior of the egg contains the cytoplasm, nucleus and yolk (nutritive material) The nucleus of the egg divides numerous times and the resulting nuclei migrate to the periphery of the egg: this is where they form into a layer of cells - cleavage cells.
