We will look at the major institutions influencing international communication in the latter half of the 20th century and on into the 21st century. This period is often referred to as the global information society. In addition, there is a range of international institutions involved in shaping global policy for information, communication and media. The importance of these institutions is their influence over what happens in and across the sector, for example, enforcing regulations and setting standards.
