The internet of things is technology that identifies, monitors and even controls physical objects, capturing meaningful data, and communicating that information through ip networks to software applications. For iot you need smart objects, machine to machine communications. Means that there are objects in the world, that has a digital life. Communicates to the phone, which communicates to the server. A smart object needs to be augmented with an id, e. g. an rfid tag, so that is uniquely identifiable. Near field communication (nfc), barcodes, or codes. The nest thermostat learns from your behaviour, what temperatures you want etc . It"s useful for watching temperatures when you"re not home, and thus lowering it. Or keeping the temperatures good when oma is home. The city will tell you if there are parking spots are available.
