CIS 2250 Lecture 19: Hey That's My Data
Document Summary
Data that is made available for use without charge. Data is owned and you must pay to use. It"s a huge area -- and it"s only getting worse. Ex: google does this (they collect it and sell it). So that your user can give appropriate permission for the use of their data. User may not be comfortable sharing and you are now responsible for protecting this data that you have collected. If you get hacked the information you have collected could get stolen (you will be held liable). Open means anyone can freely access, use, modify, and share for any purpose (subject, at most, to requirement that preserve provenance and openness) . A lot of people now are supporting the idea, that data should be open for everyone (if we created the data, we should be able to access it).
