CIS 1200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Flash Memory, Random-Access Memory, Sound Card
Document Summary
In the sixth unit of the course we are going to talk about understanding and assessing hardware. When is the best ime to buy a computer - never or anyime. Many people want the best, the fastest and the newest computers. Moore"s law = cpu capacity and speed will double every two years (once your computer is 2 years old it is already obsolete) The cpu is the systems processor, it is atached to the motherboard and makes sure that all computer instrucions, calculaions and low of informaion works seamlessly. How good the cpu is depends on clock speed (# of instrucions that can be handles in a second), number of cores (dual core for example) The higher the number of cores the more mulitasking you can do. The memory subsystem is the amount of ram (random access memory) that your computer has. Ram is the temporary storage that the computer has available to it.
