Together the system unit and peripheral devices perform four main functions: 1: process inputted data, output, store the data and information. Motherboard: a circuit board that holds the cpu, ram expansion cards and other built in components. Ram: non-permanent memory it is used to store current instructions and data. Rom: stores start up instructions and is permeant memory. Cpu: the central processing unit controls all functions of the computer it is often called the brains. It can perform a large number of tasks per second. Hard drive: the main storage for your data normally permanently mounted within your computer. Drive bays: hold components of the computer such as hard drives, cd and dvd roms drives.
