CIS 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Base Transceiver Station, Technological Convergence, Mobile Phone
Document Summary
Digital convergence is the idea that eventually you will only need a single device for all digital media, internet, entertainment, and communication needs. This is the path that smartphones and tablets have been taking since their introduction. Today, smartphones can be used for pretty much everything, with actual voice communication being one of the lesser-used features. The move to convergence has created the need for increased computing power in mobile devices, which has led to more features and greater digital convergence. Telephony is the use of a device for voice communication over a distance. With the digital age, these devices (cellphones, smartphones, and voip devices) have changed from using analog signals to digital signals. Cellphone (an abbreviation for cellular phone) is a telephony device. A cell is a geographic area centered on a base transceiver station, and a bunch of connected cells form a cellular network.
