Leadership: the in uence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context. Strategic leadership: leadership that involves the ability to anticipate, envision, maintain exibility, think strategically and work with others to initiates changes that will create a viable future for the organization. Individuals with titles i. e. manager are expected to in uence others and give speci c authority - formal leaders. Other individuals may emerge as leaders - informal leaders. Trait theory of leadership: leadership depends on the personal qualities or traits of the leader. Some traits associated with leadership effectiveness are: intelligence, energy and drive, self-con dence, dominance, motivation to lead, emotional stability, honesty and integrity, need for achievement, sociability. Limitation of the trait approach: it is dif cult to determine whether traits make the leader or whether the opportunity for leadership produces the traits, can lead to bias or discrimination when evaluating a leaders effectiveness.
