May become pendulous (dangling) in adults, suspended by a mesentery-like membrane. Hilum: indentation in the medial border: renal artery and vein enter and leave the kidney, caudal to renal artery and vein, the ureter drains the kidney. Adrenal glands: small firm bodies in the fat medial and cranial to each kidney, usually lie dorsal to the adrenolumbar vein. Female urinary part: urine drains from renal pelvis, renal pelvis joins ureter at hilum, smooth muscle in ureters, bladder stores urine, bladder has smooth muscle and elastic tissue, bladder sphincter with smooth and striated muscle. Broad ligament : ovary and reproductive tract of the female are supported by this sheet of mesentery, lot of fat lies within it. Cervix connects the uterus to the vagina: normally closed, the cervix relaxes to permit passage of spermatozoa or fetuses. Vagina: proceeds though the pelvic canal, lying between the urethra and the rectum.
