BIOM 3010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Azygos Vein, Lymphatic Vessel, Extracellular Fluid
Document Summary
Azygous vein: azygous vein may be asymmetrical, drains veins from thoracic & abdominal walls, empties into cranial vena cava. Lymphatics: functions, returns excess tissue fluid that leaks out of blood capillaries, absorbs digested fat from small intestine, removes bacteria and other foreign particles, produces lymphocytes (part of immune system) Lymphatic capillaries: comparable with blood capillary, begin blind-ended, form networks with tissues. Lymphatic vessels: merger of lymphatic capillaries, similar distribution as veins but more numerous. Lymphatic ducts: lymphatic vessels drain into larger lymphatic ducts, ducts drain into blood vessels.
