Line body cavities: cutaneous, mucous, serous membranes, connective tissue membranes, synovial membranes. Important for pumping heart and churning stomach: peritoneum, serosa lining the abdominal cavity and covering its organs, pleura, membrane surrounding the lungs, pericardium, membrane surrounding the heart. I(cid:374)tegu(cid:373)e(cid:374)t: (cid:862)(cid:272)o(cid:448)eri(cid:374)g(cid:863: keeps water and other molecules in the body, also keeps unwanted things out, pliable, yet tough. Insulates and cushions deeper body organs: protects entire body from mechanical damage, chemical damage, thermal damage, ultraviolet radiation, and bacteria, uppermost layer is full of keratin. Insulates deeper tissues from extreme temperature changes occurring outside the body: responsible for curves (more for women than men, epidermis, composed of up to 5 layers. Is the most adequately nourished layer because nutrients diffusing from the dermis reach them first: cells are constantly dividing, millions of new cells are produced daily, old cells are pushed upwards.
