Dna deterioration increases with time, so does likelihood of polyp formation. Family history, polyps, genetic conditions, male, overweight or obese, alcohol, smoking. Gene mutations: hnpcc (lynch syndrome), fap (lots of polyps but they wont all develop into cancer) Make lifestyle changes: healthy diet, exercise, no smoking or alcohol. (cid:862)apple (cid:272)ore(cid:863) indi(cid:272)ates (cid:272)olon (cid:272)an(cid:272)er. Stage 2: surgery to remove lymph nodes, chemotherapy. Turmeric: decreases size and number of polyps in colon. Pain and fatigue, make lifestyle changes (diet and exercise), financial burden. Research advancements: laparoscopic surgery, use of drugs to reduce risk. Capsule endoscopy small pill with camera, takes pictures of the inside. Limbic system, hippocampus, frontal, temporal lobes are affected. Damage to brain occurs a decade before symptoms. Communication is disrupted, leads to the death of brain cells. > extra chromosome in down syndrome increases risk of alzheimers.
