Effort to stop the nuclear arms race + protest nuclear testing. Bob hunter: first president of greenpeace, good leader. Make people see what is happening and make a choice. If they don"t believe it is ethical, they then protest it. Use the media to raise awareness and support. Needed media attention to get their message across. Work with other countries: the environment has no borders. Greenpeace went on a boat trip to protest nuclear testing. Result: nixon tested only 1 of the 5 bombs. Greenpace made the environment a front page issue, starting the ecology movement. On a little zodiak, tried to get in between the whale and the harpoon. The photo made a clear line between right and wrong, whale and harpoon. Made people bear witness & choose a side. Movement to stop fur imports, save the seals, protest gmo foods, stop the destruction of rainforests, stopped shell from dumping oil into the ocean, protest post-war pollution, etc.
