There are more public and private nursing homes. Globalization has led to more foreign care assistants. Some older persons choose not to live with their adult children and live as couples or alone which is a very contemporary idea. They don"t want to be a burden and want to minimize dependence. Special public nursing homes for people 65+ years old in tokyo. Given to those with serious conditions or those without family members to care for them. These are cheaper and subsidized by the state. Sakurabia seijo (tokyo) a very expensive and private nursing home, an example of the commercialization of elder care. Japanese style can consist of a variation of dried fish, roasted seaweed, steamed rice, pickles, miso soup, raw egg. Western style is toast and coffee/ tea, ham and eggs, juice. Rice, miso soup with salad, meat/ fish. Rice is a staple in japan, there is even special government support for rice farmers.
