In recent times japan has experienced an increase in students that are refusing to go to school. Most recently the education system has been reformed once again since 2002 to increase once more the number of hours spent in school. This change to the 2002 reform occurred because there had been noticeably lower levels of achievement due to reduced school hours. School hours have increased in the recent years and is now closer to the original. English classes now begin in elementary schools during the fifth and sixth grade. More middle class families are choosing to send their children to private middle and high schools.
