A place to observe things, an emersion of culture work in the field. Place, people involved: i. e. cultural anthropology in the park when the children are there. * note: tourism is not anthropology; there is no research question in tourism * Like situations in your own life when you don"t know the rules. Process of learning through exposure to daily routines of life in the field. Dual purpose: participating/ observing: heightened sense of trying to watch/ learn with goal. Participant observation. " the basic idea behind participant information is that one can learn a great deal about the community by joining ongoing activities. Fieldwork for me has involved garden work, making tapa cloth, trying roof thatch, traditional dancing, regular church services; and endless hours chewing betelnut on verandahs while sharing the gossip of the day. Whenever i try to work with maisin, i am inevitably brought up by my physical weakness and incompetence at even the most basic tasks.
