Among people who are going to see each other again. Willing to invest in people around them because they know they will see them again. Give up more than you ever get back. Is there such a thing as a true gift: redstribution. One family or person collects a bunch of stuff . Gives them away (under locally specific rules) Salmon runs (foragers) -> potlatch give away . Events in life- birth, naming, totem pole raising, memorials, marriages. Mutual benefit (delayed exchange because you win in the end) Avoid risk so that we can avoid social obligations so that people will take care of us.
