Pastoralism: the raising of animals for the production of milk products and meat. Order above is the order these appear in human history. Not evolutionary (they do not go from one to the other through evolution) Each of the systems require special knowledge. Differences in labour based on gender and age. Who owns what in terms of property (very little bc heavy and unnecessary) Talking about systems in terms of scale of land use (is it extensive (a lot of land used lightly (foragers)) or intensive (varying degrees of land size reused over and over again)) Small populations living in large areas (low population densities) Division of labour is around gender and age lines. Stereotype that women gather and men hunt. Efficiency- do what needs to be done.
